kissing,
and I remember
how soft and wet and unpredictable
lips are
your tongue so far in my throat
that at first there is fear --
large, hot fear
like the absence of breathing, of
life itself
but then
I relax into receiving you,
and the edges of me melt --
as if you were entering between my legs
rather than between my jaw
later, or earlier,
perhaps in a different life,
I walk down into the earth's hollow
and once again I am swallowed whole,
once again fear
now without pleasure,
the boundaries of my skin in tact
I don't know how we got here,
an island,
on foot.
time feels slow, and wide,
and I wake, liminal, full of desire.
